Passenger, 1979-1986

A third reflectorized series commenced in 1979 (for 1980 expirations); this time reverting to the "68" issue's black-on-yellow color scheme. This also proved to be the last time all Wisconsin passenger plates were reissued in a single year: These plates were issued through mid-1986 with numerous varieties and variations, and remained valid until being phased out gradually between 1987 and 1993.

Among the variations to note are the "no slot" variety of circa 1984-85, which omits the elongated slot at lower right, and the late-period 1985-86 variation that removed the groove below the slogan at top and replaced the debossed "gutter" border with a beveled edge. Additionally, variations of the 5, 7, C, Q, S, and W serial characters and no fewer than four slogan and three state name dies appear scattered throughout this series.
