The Roads and Rails of Summers County, West Virginia

Welcome to Summers County! Nestled in the West Virginia hills between Beckley and Lewisburg, this area is a gem filled with unparalleled scenery and recreation opportunities.

Pipestem State Park is located here, as well as Bluestone State Park, the John Henry Museum and Historical Park, the Bluestone National Scenic River, Bluestone Lake, the Hinton Railroad Museum, the Three Rivers Avian Center, the Appalachian South Folklife Center, a host of campgrounds, and the access point to Sandstone Falls. The Hinton railway station still offers passenger service as of 2025, making the city accessible without a car.

Many of my favourite memories of West Virginia were experienced in Summers County. In the weeks and months ahead, I intend to build out this feature to a standard similar to my Mercer County and Hamilton projects.
